After spending a few days with Rosie, you notice a couple of things: First, Rosie truly is Sweetapolita—from her tireless devotion to coming up with the perfect white cake (one that you can keep in the fridge, but still tastes great when you bring it to room temperature) to her easygoing personality and perfect pink, scalloped clutch. The other, which defies several laws of physics—not to mention the Vancouver climate—is her hair always looks that good.

The first night Tara was in Vancouver for the Seven Spoons book tour, she came to stay at Chez Robert’s here in Horseshoe Bay. We snapped the obligatory “it” couple photo (for the fans)—and within minutes were cooking dinner.

A little back story: first, there was Billary, Bennifer and Brangelina—then there was Tara O’Brady and Robert McCullough—better known as McBrady. It only seemed fitting that we would end up in the kitchen together—or at the very least in a Richard Curtis rom com.  

Walking into Vikki VanSickle’s home is like stepping inside a story book. Around every corner there’s something to look at, something to admire. Vikki is not only the author of the beloved If I Had a Gryphon and many other books for children and teens, she’s also the head of marketing for our Young Readers program, and a former bookseller too.

Everyone has an origin story about their love for reading. Sometimes a favourite librarian sparked their interest, or maybe it was a particularly memorable children’s book. In honour of Valentine’s Day, we asked our in-house designers to illustrate who or what inspired their love of books and the results are truly breathtaking.

One of my favourite daily rituals is reading for (at least) an hour. I’ve had it for years. While most hours of my day are taken up with meetings, phone calls and the deluge of daily life, almost every single evening that time is mine.

For Toronto residents and frequent visitors, the name Matt Dean Pettit might be synonymous with Rock Lobster – a restaurant that staked its claim in the city’s restaurant scene by serving up simple, delicious, and authentic seafood dishes – something that can be tough to come by in a place so far removed from our nation’s oceanic coasts.
