October 6, 2017. Toronto, Canada—McClelland and Stewart is honoured to announce the publication of Leonard Cohen’s final book, THE FLAME, which was completed in the months before his death in November 2016. The deal was arranged with Andrew Wylie at The Wylie Agency. The book will be published in Canada on October 16, 2018. In the United States, the book will be published by Farrar, Straus and Giroux; in the United Kingdom, it will be published by Canongate Books.

Last night, the Writers’ Trust Awards was a wonderful evening as Penguin Random House Canada authors won four of the major awards. 

JAMES MASKALYK was announced the winner of the Hilary Weston Writers’ Trust Prize for Nonfction, a prize worth $60,000, for LIFE ON THE GROUNDFLOOR: Letters from the Edge of Emergency Medicine, published by Doubleday Canada.

New York, New York (February 25, 2018) – A global publication date of Tuesday, November 13, 2018, has been set for the highly anticipated memoir by Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States of America. The news was announced today by Markus Dohle, CEO of Penguin Random House, which acquired world publishing rights to the book. Titled BECOMING, Mrs. Obama’s book will be released in the U.S. and Canada in print and digital formats by the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House.

McClelland & Stewart is honoured to announce the forthcoming publication of a final novel by the late Richard Wagamese, the beloved, bestselling author of Indian Horse and Medicine Walk. This posthumously published novel, entitled Starlight, will be released on August 14, 2018, in hardcover and as an ebook and audiobook. The deal was arranged by John Pearce of Westwood Creative Artists in association with Chris Casuccio, on behalf of Richard Wagamese’s Estate.

Growing out of our online magazine Hazlitt, Strange Light will build on what Hazlitt has done exceptionally well: publishing unpredictable, experimental, diverse, and emerging authors telling stories only they could tell.

Strange Light has acquired Canadian English rights to Max Porter’s second novel Lanny, which follows Porter’s much-heralded 2016 debut Grief Is the Thing with Feathers.

Monday, April 9, 2018 (Toronto) —McClelland & Stewart announces the forthcoming publication of a book by journalist Justin Ling about the murders of at least seven men who disappeared from Toronto’s Gay Village. The deal was arranged by agent Martha Webb at CookeMcDermid, and the as-yet-untitled work will be published in Canada in print and digital formats in 2019.
